Sheriff warns on scam
There is currently an ongoing SCAM where the caller calls individuals and claims he is with the Wichita County Sheriff’s Office and that they have an outstanding warrant for their arrest. They will instruct you to come the Wichita County Sheriff’s Office and then while you are in route, they will contact you and instruct you to stop and pickup gift cards in certain denominations to pay your fine or bond. They will then ask for the numbers on the cards so that they can verify that you picked them up. Once they have the numbers, they can get the money from the cards.
The Wichita County Sheriff’s Office, the County Judge the Commissioner’s Court Secretary nor any other Judge does not contact individuals by telephone who have outstanding warrants. If you receive such calls, please do not give out your identifying information. They may have gotten you name from social media or other outlets.
Hang up and notify law enforcement if you receive such calls.
