Iowa Park CISD locked down during hunt for fugitive
The Iowa Park CISD, (IPCISD), invoked a school lockdown last week after receiving a call that a fugitive from outside of Texas was afoot.
IPCISD Chief of Police Dustin Arledge said that on the morning of Nov. 12, he was alerted by the Iowa Park Police Department that a male suspect was running from police. Arledge was told that the man, Adam Lee Knisely, of Florida, might have family members living in Iowa Park.
Knisely was tracked on his cell phone and from a drone in the area. He was located in the 600 block of West Manes running from officers and jumping over fences. Wichita County deputies and The Texas Department of Public Safety, (DPS), assisted in appending the suspect.
IPCISD administration was alerted of the threat in the area and all five campuses, including the Disciplinary Alternative Education Program, (DAEP), were placed on a lockdown. Arledge explained that IPCISD Superintendent Kevin McCasland then notified parents of just under 2,000 district-wide students of the emergency by text message.
Moreover, Arledge advised that once the situation was cleared, the lockdown was lifted around 11:05 a.m.
He said that lockdowns are unfortunately identified as drills in the present world, but praised the cooperation of school personnel and students.
“I think we’ve really trained our students and the staff on the importance of going into lockdown,” Arledge advised.
Knisely, 46, was taken into custody by Wichita County deputies. He is now in Florida on charges for Violating pre-trial release of Domestic Violence, and Tampering with an Electronic Monitoring Device, (ankle bracelet).
On-line records indicated that the DPS charged Knisely with Evading Arrest with a prior conviction. Bond was set at $10,000. No bond was listed on the Florida charges.
