Hawks face familiar foe in Jim Ned in playoffs

The Hawks (3-7, 2-4) claimed the No. 4 seed from District 4-3A DI and will face the Jim Ned Indians (7-3, 4-1), the No. 1 seed from District 3-3A DI. The Indians finished in a three-way tie for district champion with Sweetwater and Comanche.
The game is scheduled for Friday night at 7 p.m. in Breckenridge. The teams have no common opponents, though the Indians beat Holliday 17-15, a team the Hawks scrimmaged in preseason; and the Indians have a 42-40 win over Jacksboro. Against Jacksboro, running back Aiden Ellis ran for 171 rush yards, while quarterback Gray Beasley threw four touchdowns. Ellis averages 130 rushing yards and two TDs a game.
The Indians average 35.5 points a game, with 270 yards per game rushing and 99 passing per game. In last week’s win over Sweetwater Ellis ran wild, going for 262 yards and 3 TDs. Beasley threw for 79 yards and 2 TDs on 9 of 12 passing and he also ran for 83 yards and a TD.
Iowa Park and Jim Ned were district mates the previous two seasons, with the Indians winning a tight game 14-7 in overtime last year. The Hawks took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a 29-yard pass from Parker Allen to Carter Sales. Jim Ned tied the game on a 4th down touchdown with just over two minutes to play.
The Hawks missed a game winning field goal in regulation and the Indians won in overtime.
Playoff history
Iowa Park is in the playoffs for the 11th straight season. This will be the 31st time overall and the 23rd time in 43 seasons of the modern era of Texas High School football that the Iowa Park Hawks have advanced to the playoffs. The modern era began with the 1982 season. Prior to 1982, only district champions advanced to the playoffs. Iowa Park is 14-8 in those first round bi-district playoff games.
