Wichita County participates in 2024 Operation Green Light for Veterans

To commemorate and honor Veterans Day, Wichita County announced plans to illuminate the county courthouse green from November 11-17 as part of Operation Green Light for Veterans, a nationwide effort uniting counties to support military veterans. The initiative, led by the National Association of Counties (NACo), raises awareness around the unique challenges faced by many veterans and the resources available at the county, state, and federal levels to assist veterans and their families.
County Judge Jim Johnson stated: “At Wichita County, we participate in this initiative to show support for our veterans. Our communities have a special bond with the US military, as we are the home for thousands of active duty personnel every year at Sheppard Air Force Base. That continues long after their time on active duty ends.”
In addition to lighting the courthouse, residents, businesses and other organizations are encouraged to participate by simply changing one light bulb inside or outside their home to a green bulb. By shining a green light, we let our veterans know that they are seen, appreciated, and supported, and we open up conversation about the needs of veterans and the services that support veteran communities.
“We are a patriotic country—and a grateful one,” said Judge Johnson. “We show that gratitude with initiatives like Operation Green Light and by supporting our county Veterans Service Office that stands ready to help veterans connect with the benefits and programs they have earned.”
