An Iowa Park man has pleaded guilty to intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault charges.
Jerry Tidwell plead to causing the death of Toby Hasten and injury to another passenger who went through the windshield of Tidwell’s truck.
Authorities say the crash happened after a night of bar hopping.
The 25-year-old Hasten died when Tidwell ran a stop sign and slammed into a concrete barrier at Iowa Park Road and Sheppard Access early on the morning of December 23, 2022.
Hasten was thrown out of the truck.
Police said only Tidwell was wearing a seat belt, which was torn free from its mounting by the impact, and Tidwell struck the airbag.
Tidwell and the bars that sold him alcohol are named in a $1 million suit for damages filed by the victim’s father, alleging the bars that sold him alcohol should have stopped selling to him when he was intoxicated.
