Iowa Park council to consider industrial park, water line expenditures
The Iowa Park City Council will consider additional work on an industrial park building, two water line replacement projects and several expenditures related to the new City Hall when it meets Monday.
The regular meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. July 13 in the Council Chambers at 103 E. Cash St. The meeting is open to the public.
Among the largest items is a proposed $176,441.57 expenditure by the Iowa Park Economic Development Corp. for additional work on a speculative building under construction at the Iowa Park Industrial Park.
Council members also will consider a $90,350 quote from Bowles Construction Co. to replace a steel water line and services in the 400 block of West Clara Avenue. A separate $48,350 quote from the company would replace a 2-inch water line in the 1600 block of Karen Lane.
Another proposed expenditure of $11,575.19 would purchase a custom-built bell joint repair sleeve from APSCO Supply for repairs to the water main at North Bond Street and East Alameda Avenue.
The agenda includes two proposed change orders for the new City Hall. One would pay GB Construction $7,475 to paint the parking canopy dark bronze, while the other would pay the company $1,926 to modify the entryway canopy.
The council also will consider a professional services agreement of up to $15,000 with Freese & Nichols Inc. to prepare an application to the Texas Water Development Board’s Flood Infrastructure Fund.
The application would seek funding for a flood management evaluation of dams at North Fork Buffalo Creek Reservoir, Lake Iowa Park and Gordon Lake.
Four ordinances are scheduled for consideration. One concerns the prohibition of alcoholic beverages at Lake Iowa Park and George Hammonds Park, while another would add electric vehicle charging systems to the city’s electric permit fee schedule.
The council also will consider rezoning 1631 Wigley Road from public use to an automotive commercial and commercial recreation district. A second request would rezone property at 700 W. Washington Ave. from automotive commercial and commercial recreation use to a residential district.
Other business includes the possible sale of bulk water to Coastal Plains Trucking, a proposed agreement with Guevara Law PC, the city’s take-home vehicle policy, customer service training for city employees and the city’s official holidays.
Police officers Leslie Allen and Dusty Sullivan are scheduled to receive their oaths of office. The council also will consider appointing Mlainey Churchwell to the Iowa Park Community Development Corp. board of directors.
As part of its consent agenda, the council will consider a request from the Iowa Park All Sports Booster Club for a waiver of the city’s fireworks ordinance. The waiver would allow fireworks during Hawk Explosion on Aug. 8 at the Iowa Park High School campus.
Council members also are scheduled to receive a budget report for the city’s public works and public utilities operations.
Residents may speak during the citizens’ input portion of the meeting but must register before the meeting begins. Speakers are limited to five minutes, and the council generally cannot discuss matters that are not listed on the posted agenda.
