Hawks bomb threes in opener

The Iowa Park Hawks opened the basketball season with a 54-43 road win over Bridgeport.
Hunter Britt scored 19 points as the Hawks shot 43 percent from long range in the game. Britt drilled the first points of the season with a three-pointer from the left of the key for a 3-0 lead. Britt knocked down another three-pointer just moments later from the right corner for a 6-2 Hawks lead. Britt’s third triple of the first quarter put the Hawks ahead 11-4.
Austin Stokes joined the party from deep with a 3 of his own as the first quarter was winding down, pushing the Iowa Park advantage to 20-9 after one quarter of play.
Stokes’ steal and fast break pushed the Hawks lead out to 23-9 early in the second quarter.
Cayson Gossett’s whirling turn-around buzzer beating three-pointer gave Iowa Park the 38-19 halftime advantage.
The Hawks are scheduled to face Jim Ned on Nov. 25 at 12:15 p.m.
