 Iowa Park sees slight population decline

Wichita County saw an estimated 0.7 percent increase in population from 129,350 recorded in the 2020 census to 130,200 estimated at the beginning of 2024, according to statistics released this past Monday by the Texas Demographic Center at the University of Texas San Antonio.

Wichita County’s population is 51.9 percent male, 62.9 percent white, 10.3 percent black, 20.9 percent Hispanic.

Iowa Park has seen a modest decline of 0.4 percent from 6,535 reported on the 2020 census to 6,509 at the beginning of 2024. Electra is down 1.5 percent from 2,292 to 2,258. Burkburnett is up 1.6 percent from 10,939 to 11,109. Wichita Falls is up 0.4 percent from 102,316 to 102,774.

Cities to the west report shrinking populations. Vernon’s population has seen an estimated 2.5 percent decline from 10,078 in 2020 to 9,822 at the beginning of 2024. Chillicothe is down 1.5 percent from 549 to 542. Quanah is down 3.4 percent from 2,279 to 2,201.

Overall, Texas population is up 5.5 percent since the 2020 census from 29,145,505 to 30,749,924 at the beginning of 2024.
